An ONT is usually fixed to a wall and is not typically user replaceable. They have an ONT, which is is kind of like a mini comms room if you will, which is where the ISP brings a line in, and sends an ethernet or coax line into your home. Router - A network device that basically forwards data packets between networks, like your WAN and your LAN.Ī service like FIOS doesnt use a modem at all for example. ![]() It essentially converts the coax coming into your house from the ISP into ethernet with a single public WAN IP address.
